THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

CULLINGWORTH

Photos by Lee Goulding Page last updated: 2022-02-22

This was quite a difficult site to access, being on farmland with no convenient passing public footpaths.

The pictures show the 8 transmitting aerials which direct signals to the Cullingworth and Harden areas which sit in a dip to the north west of Bradford. This is a fairly complex area receptionwise with much of the local area being covered by one or more of Emley Moor, Keighley or Idle and in many areas Bilsdale. Much of Cullingworth is quite low-lying by local standards with the result that none of these options is quite good enough.

Finding clear channels must have been something of a challenge judging by the non-standard channel allocation of 66/39/49/68 in use at Cullingworth; in addition the site uses horizontal polarisation to minimise interference. The horizontally polarised receive aerial points over the moors to Emley Moor.

Cullingworth was built by the IBA to serve about 650 people. It entered service on 19-Dec-1986.
