New Mast Build September 2011

Nigel writes:

My wife and I were stayed overnight in Fort William to take a trip on Jacobite Express (used for Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter Films) and had a few hours to spare. We were trying to find Glenfinnan, Lochallort and Arisaig House Self-Helps which we could not find with the information to hand. After leaving Arisaig House we could see the Arisaig relay on the hill as we turned back onto the A830 main road so we then looked for the unclassified road to take us to the site but ended up on a farm with a great view of the mast.

Unfortunately the weather was not favourable, and as a result the photos are a little grainy; it was necessary to use 400 ASA film speed, f/5 to f/8 apertures and a 55mm to 300mm lens.

Arisaig entered service in August 1989. DSO was on the 13th and 27th October 2010.

The next 2 shots were taken from Jacobite Express Train before Arisaig Railway Station on the way to Mallaig.

The last shot was taken after leaving Arisaig Railway Station heading towards Mallaig.

Below onwards: Martin Briscoe's photos show details of the antennae.

Martin's last picture (above) shows the transition period when the old tower (left) and the new stood side by side. The old tower was an old Scottish Hydro Electric pylon and as can be seen is of less robust construction than its replacement. TV transmissions transferred to the new tower on 27-Oct-2000.
