THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

ABERTILLERY

Photos by Andrew Rogers and Phil England Page last updated: 2023-10-05

This is a very fine high CCI site near St Illtyd's Church. Unusually this site uses trough aerials for both receiving and transmitting. The lower horizontally polarised troughs point at Wenvoe.

Abertillery was originally a BBC Landlord site which entered service on 30-Nov-1973 to serve 14,800 people.
S4C was available from the launch on 1-Nov-1982.

Near this site I found one of the many former cable head ends, now looking rather forlorn with a small empty building and lots of loose cables, but many of the original bowtie antennae can still be seen. There is another such site near Ebbw Vale.
