THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
ABERTILLERY
Photos by Andrew Rogers and Phil England | Page last updated: 2021-12-25 |
This is a very fine high CCI site near St Illtyd's Church. Unusually this site uses trough aerials for both receiving and transmitting. The lower horizontally polarised troughs point at Wenvoe. Originally a BBC Landlord site, UHF TV on 3 channels commenced on the 30th November 1973. S4C was available from the launch on 1st November 1982. |
Looking north from the site at the transmission area, Abertillery town |
Near this site I found one of the many former cable head ends, now looking rather forlorn with a small empty building and lots of loose cables, but many of the original bowtie antennae can still be seen. There is another such site near Ebbw Vale. |
