Comments: Ferndale is a TV relay of Wenvoe and an FM relay of Wenvoe (via Porth)

Originally a BBC landlord site, TV channels 1 - 3 entered service on 20th December 1974, with S4C available from the launch on 1st November 1982. DSO was on 3rd and 31st March 2010.

BBC FM radio was added in March 1995.

Anthony: I decided to get fit and take some photos of Ferndale for you. (The sun came out for a change in South Wales.)

Taken from Llanwonno mountain.

Taken from the road side about 150m from the mast, but due to fallen branches I couldn't get any closer this way so it was a 1 mile walk along the dirt track in the forestry to get a better view.

The photo above is taken from the end of the track, but I couldn't go any further (didn't fancy being shot by a 12-bore shotgun!)

The view of Ferndale to the west.

Tylerstown and Wattstown to the south east. Rhonndda Fach mast is to the left of the photo
just left of the farmhouse on top of the hill Rhondda and Tonypandy mast are in the distance in the rear valley you can also see the Porth mast from here but I couldn't get it in the photo.

Facing South: Porth mast is on the left of the picture.
In the distance are the Mendip hills across the Bristol channel.

Wayne Brewer (May 2010): The warning sign that Anthony found on the gate is still there, so after a quick risk assessment (no flag, no cars, no people, no gun shots, everything locked up) I proceeded with caution to the compound.

A Crown Castle sign, still not fully unwrapped.

Wayne Brewer took this photo of Ferndale from the Rhondda Fach relay.
