Hemel Hempstead is one of the high power (10kW ERP) relays of Crystal Palace whose analogue services cover a surprisingly wide area.

This is a BT mast now used for site shares. The two sets of vertical trough antennas at the mast top are the transmitting aerials. This is quite a rare setup as the only other sites we know of like this are in South Wales. The other tower is a Hertfordshire police tower now owned by Gridcom.

The mast is clearly visible from the M25

BBC 2 entered service late in 1969, BBC 1 in December 1970, ITV from 10th March 1972 and Channel 4 from September 1983. DTT was added in 1998. DSO was on 4th and 18th April 2012.

ILR (Oasis Radio, 96.6 MHz) launched on 22nd October 1994. BBC Three Counties Radio entered service on 30th November 2005.
