THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY

KENDAL

Photos by Mark G7RJV Page last updated: 2016-04-10

Pictures taken 28 September 2011

Changes at Kendal have been internal rather than external on the tower. Since DSO, Kendal forms the main station in a Border TV sub region with Coniston, Crosthwaite, Grasmere, Hawkshead, Kendal Fell, Millthrop, Sedburgh and Windermere as relays.

The sub region allows the BBC to provide BBC 1 North West (Manchester) programming with ITV Borders – England programming. Same services which were provided on analogue.

The radio changes since the earlier pictures are that Radio Cumbria is now transmitted, together with the 2 ILR services, from the slant polarised, 2 element Yagi near the top of the tower (44m). Changed 27/3/2009. Also BBC DAB ERP was increased from 200 W to 3.2 kW from 21/3/2007.

Hazy pictures of Kendal. Tower in middle is a telecoms tower located near Castle Green Hotel
