CONWY

Photos by TCPD Page last updated: 2020-05-10

Conwy April 1991

Before construction of the current tower, antennas at Conwy were supported by a rather unusual stayed mast.
I have no additional information to explain the situation. Maybe it was just that the mast was made wider at the top to allow access to the antenna when it has been lowered out of the cylinder for maintenance.

Most likely the mast was replaced by the tower for the addition of BBC FM radio, which entered service on 11th June 1993.

UHF TV transmissions commenced with BBC 2 during July 1972, followed by BBC 1 from April 1973, ITV from 19th October 1973, with S4C available from the 1st November 1982 launch.
