This GPO/BT site became a broadcast transmission site when UHF TV transmissions commenced in February 1981. BBC FM radio was added later that same year in August. However, Mynydd Pencarreg had an earlier broadcasting role being used to provide the 405-line BBC TV programme feed to Blaenplwyf. The band I, channel 5 transmissions from Wenvoe being received here, then on-passed to Blaenplwyf via an SHF link. Later this link was re-engineered as a fully SHF route from Cardiff, probably at around the same time as the separate BBC 1 Wales transmissions commenced from Wenvoe in band III, channel 13 (February 1964).
UHF TV transmissions entered service in February 1981 to serve 2,500 people. S4C was available from the launch on 1-Nov-1982. BBC FM radio entered service in August 1981 on 89.7 / 91.9 / 94.1 with Radio's 1 & 4 added on 17-Mar-1994. ILR (Radio Ceredigion) launched on 14-Dec-1992 on 96.6 MHz. |
