BALTASOUND

Baltasound - June 2014

I took advantage of a holiday to the Shetland Islands in June 2014 to get some photos of the UK's most northerly broadcast transmission site on the island of Unst.

General view of station. Note the RBL Rx panel on Fetlar.

A closer view of the Rx panel.

Ground view.

Another ground view.

Another angle on the top of the tower. Note the four vertically polarised Rx logs also on Fetlar.

Looking south from the station.

And here is a little "extra" photo for the Tx Gallery : this is a view of nearby RAF Saxa Vord at the very northernmost tip of the UK. In Cold War days this was the UK's early warning station for detecting enemy aircraft or missiles incoming over the North Pole.
