| A jaunt up Earls Hill on a bitterly cold Sunday afternoon in January 2013 afforded a close look at the collection of masts and antennas up there. |
| This is the first mast that you come to when making your way up the hill on the track that starts from the single-track unclassified road below (grid reference of mast : NS721884). The BBC DAB array is at the top of the mast with the satellite dish for the programme feed at the base. Other dipoles just below the top of the mast on the RHS are presumably for the Glasgow / Central Scotland DAB services. |

| A good bit further up the track, and just below the summit of the Earls Hill at grid reference NS718883, we find another two towers lurking. In the foreground we have Central FM's tower complete with a pair of slanted transmitting Yagis looking out directly over the Forth Valley, and in the background we have a fairly standard Airwave tower and antenna. |

| View from the base of the Central FM tower. This is a very elevated site and the FM transmissions get out at decent strength over a distance of some 40 miles to the East. Note also that there are 3 further masts on the summit of Earls Hill just above this point with what looks like MF / LF transmitter wires strung between them - these aren't used for broadcasting, so I assume that they must form some sort of aeronautical or maritime beacon - can anyone elaborate? |
