More detail - August 2017

Alston in Cumbria, a Pontop Pike relay. The transmitter site is about 1 mile northeast of the centre of Alston at 500m above sea level at the top of a hill called Newshield Moss. The track leading up to the site rises 100m vetically from start by the B6294. Fortunately it winds its way up the hillside with only one steeper pitch.

Three towers at the top here. The broadcast one is on the right.

Two vertically polarised trough aerials for transmit. They face southeast towards Nenthall and southwest towards the town of Alston.

Twin receive troughs on Pontop Pike.

Half a sign.

The town of Alston in the valley below. At an altitude of about 300m, it shares the title of the 'highest market town in England' with Buxton, Derbyshire.
