Easter Compton is a relay of Mendip, serving the village of Easter Compton itself (near Bristol) plus some other small communities surrounding it bordering the Severn estuary, and also areas of Avonmouth, a large industrial and docks facility on the Bristol channel. The relay was necessary as the signal from Mendip is obscured by nearby Spaniorum Hill. Prior to the opening of this relay on 23-Nov-1983, the only usable source of UHF TV was from across the Severn estuary to South Wales (Wenvoe). Easter Compton allows viewers in the area to watch English rather than Welsh programming.
The original channel allocation was 30/56/34/67. As all four of these channels were then allocated to interim DTT at Wenvoe, the channel line-up at Easter Compton was changed to 63/57/53/60, in 1998. There was also a small ERP increase from 10W to 12.5W. |
