Comments: Porthleven is a relay of Redruth

The Porthleven relay is clearly visible on the hilltop (left) as you approach this very attractive coastal village. It was originally a BBC landlord site which entered service on 29th April 1983.








As soon I saw this elegant metal pole installation I thought to myself "I bet this used to be a wooden pole at one time. I must look for some evidence"...


... as it turns out, finding evidence of the original wooden pole was not too difficult! There it was, discarded in the field hedgerow, which made it easy to look at how the two halves of a 17m pole are spliced together. UHF TV transmissions were transferred to the steel monopole on 2nd October 2001.






All the listings show this site as transmitting with vertical polarisation but I'm afraid all the listings are wrong!
