Tucked away in a field at 167m asl overlooking the village is this relay of Sutton Coldfield. Originally a BBC site, as the label on a nearby transformer pole shows, Long Compton entered service in April 1990. It was built to improve TV reception to around 255 people in an area that had been served by Lark Stoke, but which was rather prone to CCI from Crystal Palace. The original structure was a 12m lattice pole, but this was replaced in October 2000 with a steel monopole to enable the site to be shared by the cellular operators. |
