The Alltwen TX is located the opposite side of the valley to the town of Pontardawe, and cannot receive signals from the Pontardawe relay due to the shape of the valley, so this small relay has been built on the side of a hill to the South-East of Pontardawe to give the locals something to tune into.
Two Pairs of crossed logs are used to TX, and RX is achieved by four vertically polarised logs. However, the RX logs are not pointing towards Wenvoe (visible from the site, just!) or nearby Pontardawe, as you might expect. They are in fact on Kilvey Hill near Swansea - itself a relay of Wenvoe. |
