Hide historic services

August 2011

A few quick photos taken on a recent shopping trip to Workington. The TV mast is sited in a residential area at the junction of Mason Street and Honister Drive. The mast has a pair of stacked dipole antennas for DAB, crossed log periodic TV antennas, 3 satellite dishes, two microwave links, two sets of mobile phone sector antennas and a couple of folded dipole PMR antennas.

Workington was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service in October 1981 to serve 2000 people. Channel 4 was added in November 1984. Digital One DAB added 31-Oct-2007. DSO 24th June and 22nd July 2009.

The satellite dishes presumably are for DAB and standby TV feeds, and possibly for telemetry.

A DAB antenna sits at the top of the mast, with the crossed log periodic TV antenna lower down. The receive log is lower still.

The crossed logs here appear almost parallel to each other...there's also a single VP log providing coverage in a different direction.
