Sideway was built by the BBC for Radio Stoke, entering service during 1974. The original Radio Stoke MF site was located at Stoke-on-Trent Royal Infirmary. The aerial being a wire suspended from a chimney. It was moved for a short time to Alsagers Bank because of interference to electrocardiogram equipment until Sideway was completed. ILR Stoke (Signal Radio) launched on 5th September 1983. INR 2 (Virgin Radio) was added on 9th July 1993.
