June 2016

IMAN FM (Institute of Media Arts and Naats) is a Community Radio station covering the north east part of Sheffield and towards Rotherham. The frequency 103.1 MHz became available following the closure of Burngreave Community Radio in September 2011 - IMAN FM went on-air in September 2014.

The site is at Wincobank Common, not quite at the top of the hill but with a clear view (and 14% gradient) to the south east. The Wincobank TV relay is not far away but much lower down...

The transmit antenna is an end-fed type, with the panel for an SHF link mounted below. It's in a domestic setting and relatively discreet though brightly lit by the evening sunshine at the time of my visit

The studio is just under two miles to the south of the transmit site

The "active" part of the antenna is the section above the brown insulator - the two black bands lower down indicate the top of the supporting pole

Looking south east over the Don Valley

To the north west - the sun was very bright! The three masts at Skew Hill can be seem just to the right of centre
