The Bexhill BBC medium wave transmitter opened on 8th November 1953, replacing a transmitter in Hastings. It was part of the synchronised network on 1457 kHz (206 m) which carried the Home Service West region.

In the September 1972 wavelength changes it moved to 1052 kHz (285 m) and then in November 1978 a second transmitter was added on 693 kHz to carry Radio 2 whilst the old Radio 4 transmitter was switched to Radio 1.

BBC local radio was added on a third transmitter (1161 kHz) during 1983. The 1053 kHz service was withdrawn when Radio 1 moved to FM only on 30-Jun-1994. Finally ILR (South Coast Radio) joined the site on 945 kHz from 11-Sep-1996.

Cutting from Practical Wireless January 1954.
