LANCASTER

Peter Bigwood comments: "I've quite taken a fancy to this site... probably the sunshine. It's a landmark to M6 users and unusual in that all three of each sets of guys are attached to the one same anchor block." Lancaster was originally planned to be a 100 kW main station transmitting with horizontal polarisation. The allocated channels were to have been 40/43/46/56. This plan was changed by the time Lancaster entered service in 1972 to a 10 kW vertically polarised relay of Winter Hill, site number 103.35, with a channel allocation of 31/27/24/21. This former ITA landlord site was built to serve about 57,000 people. |
