STRABANE

Photos by Terry White and Sam Reid Page last updated: 2020-04-12

The mast may seemed a little over-engineered for a simple 400 W UHF relay station until you remember that Strabane was originally an ITA VHF-405-line site. ITV on VHF channel 8 entered service on 18th February 1963. Closed January 1985.

For UHF TV, transmitter lists from the early 1970's show Strabane being planned as a Brougher Mountain relay, with site number 151.01, and transmitting on UHF channels 57/63/60/53 at 800W ERP. But when it eventually entered service on the 15th July 1977, it was as a relay of Limavady with site number 130.04, transmitting on UHF channels 39/45/49/42 at 2 kW ERP. Channel 4 was added during November 1983. DSO was on 10th and 24th October 2012.

DAB service dates: N.Ireland, 5th September 2001; BBC, 29th May 2008; Digital One, 26th July 2013.
