IDLE

Photos by Alexander Heath and Mat Overton Page last updated: 2024-09-30

Shots of the Idle / Wrose TV transmitter serving the Aire valley to the north of Bradford. Viewers in Shipley and Bingley are spoilt for choice, if they can't get Emley, they should be able to get either Keighley or Idle, and both carry DTT.

Meanwhile on top of Idle Hill, we get fantastic reception, a lovely view of all three and get superb Tyne Tees reception from Bilsdale as well! I haven't yet tried Winter Hill, but as soon as I get bored...

Idle was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service with ITV on 29-Dec-1972 to serve 17,000 people. BBC 1 & 2 were added in March 1973 with Channel 4 from January 1985. The UHF cylinder contains a north facing cardioid. Interim DTT was added in the spring of 1999. DSO was on 7th and 21st September 2011.

ILR Bradford (Pennine Radio) launched on 16-Sep-1975 on 96.0 MHz. Frequency changed to 97.5 MHz on
11-Mar-1986. Sunrise FM launched on 9-Dec-1989 on 103.2 MHz. BBC national FM radio was added in
April 1994. Galaxy 105 launched on 14-Feb-1997 on 105.6 MHz. Real Radio (107.6 MHz) from 25-Mar-2002. Classic FM from 8-Aug-2002. BCB (106.6 MHz) from 15-Aug-2006.

The split shot shows the view of other TV transmitters visible from Idle. From Left to Right - Emley Moor, Wharfedale, Keighley and Tinshill Moor Communication tower (Not TV). The only other local site not visible is Beecroft Hill to the East, hidden behind Idle village itself.
