PENISTONE

Photos by Alan Price Page last updated: 2017-04-13

April 2017

Confusingly, Ofcom names the Dearne FM site Penistone and the Penistone FM site Hoylandswaine. They are a few metres from each other and have the same NGR in Ofcom data - though the site heights are different!

Dearne FM was in service September 2003 and Penistone FM April 2009.

Dearne FM's installation is on the left, Penistone FM on the right, in between the telegraph pole and the tower behind.

Dearne is 50 watts vertical.

Moving over to Penistone FM's installation...

Even though Penistone FM's ERP is the usual 25 watts (vertical) awarded to most community stations, it's elevated location and relatively clear frequency allow it to be heard over a wide area of Yorkshire.

I think this hut is used by both stations.
