SHATTON EDGE

Photos by Richard Maycock Page last updated: 2023-05-22

2003

Shatton Edge is a 200 W (in analogue days 1 kW) UHF relay of Emley Moor (via Tideswell Moor) built to serve about 6000 people in the rural Hope Valley and surrounding area, including the Derwent valley, in the Derbyshire Peak District. This former BBC landlord site entered service on 13-Jun-1975 with Channel 4 added on 3-Oct-1986.

At 413 m, the aerial is the second highest of the relays of Emley Moor. The very hilly terrain in the region is a challenge for TV coverage. The small village of Hope, in the valley bottom less than two miles away has its own 2.4 W relay.
