The Mendlesham mast was built by British Insulated Callender's Cables (BICC) for the ITA East Anglia ITV service during 1959. The 1000ft mast was the tallest in Europe at the time of construction. 405-line Anglia TV launched on 27-Oct-1959 on channel 11 and closed in January 1984.

The site resumed broadcasting duties on 22-Nov-1997 with independent regional radio on 106.4 MHz (Vibe FM).
