SWAINS LANE

Photos by Anne Koerber Page last updated: 2017-08-24

Photo taken August 13th 2017

This BBC tower in Highgate, north London, is now largely occupied with redundant aerials and antennas and is expected to be sold in the near future.

[Ed]. The large SHF antenna with the torn cover is facing northwest towards Whipsnade. It had been used to distribute NICAM encoded BBC radio to Peterborough and Tacolneston.

[Ed]. Close to the top are 4 horizontal band III, 3 element Yagis spaced at 90 degrees intervals around the tower. From this angle the northeast and southwest aerials are clearly visible, with the northwest facing Yagi somewhat lost against the tower steelwork. These were receive aerials for BBC News radiocars at 213/4 MHz. These days the radiocars rely on connectivity via 3G and 4G mobile networks or satellite.
