GLYNDYFRDWY

Photos by Ray Cooper Page last updated: 2021-10-12

November 2005

Glyndyfrdwy is a small relay serving the village of that name, which is shielded from the main Corwen relay by an inconvenient hillside. Unusually it is sited almost in the valley bottom, at a much lower level than the adjacent A5 road, from which it can be seen at one point by eastward-bound traffic.

Glyndyfrdwy was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on the 28th March 1983.

The site ID, discovered on the hidden side of an open gate.
Evidently not too many callers in these parts.

A general view of the site, looking east-ish. The site is somewhat above the adjacent (surfaced!) road, reached via a flight of steps (up and down which all the test gear must be carried...)

The business end. Four vertical dipoles spaced off a spine, presumably giving a cardioid radiation pattern to the west. Below, two tandem vertically polarised log-periodic aerials as RBL off Corwen.

The view westwards from the site.
