The purpose of building the temporary mast at Emley Moor was to allow structural changes to the antenna spine take place at the top of the concrete tower. The changes to the concrete tower appear to be undertaken by Turmbau Steffens & Nölle. https://www.turmbau.de/en/ |
Sunday 17 March 2019 March 2019 has been a windy month, so I decided not to bother driving past Emley Moor as I expected the work on the tower to start later in the year when the weather was better. On Saturday 16 March 2019, I just so happen to look at Emley Moor from home via some binoculars and noticed the top of the tower had changed. Early morning the next day I visited the site. Next visit I will take my Nikon D90 with a 500mm lens for more detailed pictures. |

Saturday 23 March 2019 Unfortunately, it was an overcast morning which always works against the quality of the pictures. But with some enhancing of the pictures some reasonable results can be produced. The upper spine which was covered by the GRP cylinder is slowly being revealed for possibly the first time since the tower was built. The spine was used for mounting the UHF TV antenna panels during analogue TV days, whilst the lower much wider spine was used for VHF TV. Post DSO the upper spine was used for the S1 antenna, whilst the S2 antenna was mounted in the lower section. |

Wednesday 03 April 2019 Tried to enhance the picture to show the underside of the small room between the upper narrow spine and lower wide spine sections. Interesting VHF antenna just below the room is now on public view. |

Tuesday 18 June 2019 The weather was poor for most of May and June, so work on the tower was very slow. Tuesday 18 June was the first day without any wind and rain, so decided to drive up Emley Moor to see if work was restarting. |
Tuesday 18 June 2019 Construction of the frame continues. |

Tuesday 18 June 2019 Seems to be a metal room now between the spine and the upper most section of the concrete tower. |
Sunday 14 July 2019 Variable weather from severe heat to wintery conditions throughout July and August. The work at Emley has slowed down. The only development has been the removal of the framework which was attached to the upper UHF spine. |
Tuesday 27 August 2019 Due to work commitments I have not had chance to drive past Emley Moor, but having the bank holiday week off work, I decided it was time to drive to the site to see what is happening. The upper spine section had already been removed when I arrived. The various road around the site were blocked due to parked vehicles as people watched the helicopter. I decided to drive around half a mile towards Skelmanthorpe to a location near a public house to take the pictures of the helicopter removing the remains of the upper spine. |
