THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
SANDALE
Photos by James Muir | Page last updated: 2021-10-23 |
I walked up to the Sandale mast on Friday afternoon, 22 October 2021. As can be seen below, the main changes from the previous Tx Gallery photos are the removal of the UHF aerial panels for the discontinued analogue BBC1 and BBC2 Scotland services, and the ongoing work to build new stay anchor foundations. |
General view. |
A very weathered vintage BBC sign! |
Top spine of the mast now empty following the removal of the UHF aerial panels. The BBC National / Classic FM aerials below the top spine look unchanged from previous Tx Gallery photos. |
Further down the mast can be seen the BBC Radio Scotland FM directional aerials (four / two tiers), and the BBC Radio Cumbria FM and interleaved DAB aerials in the four tiers below those. Again, these all look unchanged. |
On the left can be seen the twin Band II log periodics on Black Hill (or Ashkirk?) for RBS purposes. However, there is no sign of the previously photographed Band II logs on Pontop Pike. |
New stay anchor foundation under construction. This would suggest that Arqiva intend to keep the mast viable for many years to come. |
Note the Caldbeck mast in the background. This photo gives a good indication of the height difference between the two sites. |
