Not as nice a day as it was 17 years ago. Nothing seems to have changed.
This site intrigues me. BBC FM only, there seems to be no 3rd party services of any kind. The relay is situated well outside of Ballycastle town, 3.8km to the west-northwest. Consequently I would think a lot of the transmit power is wasted. Does anyone know why the FM services were never moved to the site at Ballycastle Forest? - Maybe they can't be?
[Ed] This location may have been chosen by the BBC in the 1960's because the geography offered an unobstructed path for reception from Divis, about 70km away. Limavady, the RBL source for UHF TV at Ballycastle Forest, is about half that distance, but didn't commence transmitting BBC FM radio until 1987. |
