THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
HORNDEAN
Photos by Andrew Murphy | Page last updated: 2023-03-15 |
I had the pleasure of visiting the Horndean relay transmitter mast today (12/03/2023) on the way for a walk in the woods nearby at the Queen Elizabeth Country Park (QECP) before the rain set-in. I have compared the photos that were taken back originally in 2002 and that I can conclude that the site has not changed much since then (despite DSO and 700MHz clearance) and that the surrounding area is in the South Downs National Park now which I think is a bonus. On the way to QECP (only accessible on the A3), I noticed that the demand from services from the relay are still very much needed, though, there was a mixture of aerials on dwellings that point towards Rowridge (Horndean's parent) and Midhurst. Apologies for the "overcastness" of these photos! :) |

The Tx Log Periodic aerials on the mast pointing towards Horndean village. |
Looks like the incoming feed to Horndean has been upgraded to twin log periodics in a 'phased-array' arrangement. [Ed] Of interest is that these receive aerial have remained horizontally polarised, unlike many other Rowridge relays where they were changed to vertical at digital switchover. |
