New UHF receive aerial - September 2023

The twin UHF trough receive aerials have been replaced with a single panel. This change was necessary due to 700 MHz band clearance at the parent station Mendip.

This is yet another site which lies in a wooded area with limited options for photographing the tower.

This gap in the tree canopy gives the most complete view of the tower including the front face of the new UHF receive panel. Unfortunately the UHF transmit aerial at the top is hidden.

The new UHF receive panel facing Mendip.

Round the other side a field permits views from further away, bringing the UHF transmit aerial into view.

No change to the 8 tier open cardioid UHF transmit aerial. I suspect that this aerial replaced the original 4 tiers of curved profile panels when the analogue TV ERP was increased in 1998.

Two tiers of CSA slant slot band II panels shared by both BBC and ILR FM radio transmit. Here we are looking at the panels which face northeast (right) and southeast (left).

Round the other side of the tower, these panels face southwest. On the left, the northwest face has no aerials.

Twin band II logs facing Churchdown Hill provide the FM radio programme feeds.

The site number reads 11018
