BILSDALE MK1

It is now early September 2023 and since my last visit to Bilsdale in May, the national DAB and local TV aerials systems have been installed onto the new mast, together with four band II receive aerials. |
The view from around 1.5 miles to the south. The mast on the right is a temporary facility for the mobile phone operators. |
The top of the mast with the new national DAB band III panels now installed. |
These band III panels are in accordance with the plans which show a 4 tier, 5 sided aerial system centred at 247m. The panels facing the camera are orientated to face roughly southwest and we are looking at mast face B - C. |
Further round this is mast face A - C. |
This wider picture of the top of the mast shows the local TV aerial system attached to the mast 'A' leg at 208.5m. However the plans show just 4 tiers of single log periodics facing 25 degrees. The same direction as the original Bilsdale mast. We now have another 4 tiers, which I estimate are pointing at around 310 degrees. |
Local TV close up. |
At the bottom of the mast are band II log periodics facing Holme Moss (right) and Pontop Pike (left). |
Band II FM radio transmit panels waiting for installation. |
More band II panels. I suspect that these are to form the aerial system for BBC Tees and Heart at 257m, which is different from the plans. |
I suspect that these two band II aerials will be installed at 292m and transmit the 96.6 MHz ILR service (TFM). This is not as the plans show, but the aerials are similar to those used to transmit 96.6 MHz on the original mast. |
Close up of the connector. |
Laid out here I can see 4 band II dipoles and several band III log periodics. |
