THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
AUCHTERMUCHTY
Photos by John P Martin | Page last updated: 2025-04-09 |
The Auchtermuchty relay in the Kingdom of Fife is a relay of Angus. The transmitter isn't actually in Auchtermuchty but just south of the village of Strathmiglo but it serves Auchtermuchty, Strathmiglo and other villages to the west and east in the A91 corridor. For B700 clearance, new transmit panels and a new receive aerial have been installed, as both the transmit and receive channels have been moved to frequencies outside the operating band of the original aerials. The B700 changes were implement at Auchtermuchty on 27-Nov-2019. |
There is handy car-parking available at the site |
Atop the tower are the new UHF transmit panels. |
..and here they are again, showing the Sira logo embossed on the front. |
From OFCOM data, the radiation pattern roughly covering the A91 corridor. |
So here we have the two receive aerials pointed at Angus. The upper one is the original trough seen in James Furness's 2008 photos. The lower one is the newer one fitted sometime before November 2019 as part of the B700 programme. |
The roughly west-facing aspect of the whole tower |
This aspect of the whole tower is north-east facing in the direction of the parent Tx at Angus |
Looking from the site down onto the village of Strathmiglo. The hills are the reason that the relay was needed as that is also roughly looking towards Angus from the site. |
Lying on the ground was this panel aerial. Tempting to take it home, but it was full of water. |
The label indicates a 900 MHz band GSM panel. |
