KNOCK HILL

Detailed photos - June 2025

Thought I'd come here on a trip back up from England, after seeing the towers on the motorway and thinking they don't look far away. Google Maps said about 30 mins away. Right then, here we go. Located in a quiet part of south west Fife, you can see these towers for miles. The views from the site are very good, as the photos below show.

Access is harder than thought. I first parked in an overflow car park at the race circuit, and walked up to West Lethans farm. After seeing a sign on the barb wired gate saying No Footpath, I walked over to the farmhouse and knocked on the door, to ask if I could go up the track. No answer. I did think about climbing the gate, but thought better. After seeing a comment on the Hill Bagging website, saying access was possible from Steelend Farm, on the south side of the hill, I drove round there, went up the track and parked about half way up. I then walked through the farm and up the steep south side of the hill.

Whilst taking photos, a rain storm approached for about 10/15 minutes. I hid under a vent above the door of the transmitter building.

The broadcast tower is on the left.

DAB antennas, and below what I believe is a VHF skeletal slot antenna for police communications? These also existed at Llandinam.

FM transmit comprises of two horizontal dipoles and one vertical dipole, pointing eastwards. Same sort of setup as at Purin Hill.

FM Rx pointing towards Purin Hill.

Purin Hill 14.5 miles away. East Lomond on the left.

I think the transmitters are located in the building on the right.

During a rain storm, I sheltered under the vent above that door.

GPS cones located on the right hand building.

I don't know whether this is an ex BT site. Building certainly looks substantial.
