Originally a BBC landlord site, BBC Dorset FM entered service on 26th April 1993. Wessex FM from 4th September 1993.

DAB service dates: Digital One, 29th November 2002: BBC, 24th February 2004: Bournemouth, 21st July 2015.

Shaun Chew writes:

Here are some updated Bincombe pictures.

As you can see it's got a white vertical antenna at the top, like at East Dundry Lane. This transmits BBC Radio Solent.

BBC R Solent has better coverage from this site than Wessex FM and it has been confirmed that the two services use different aerials"

[Ed]. Ofcom data from 2012 onwards indicates that both FM radio services now share the white vertical antenna at the top.

The four tier band III aerial on the cantilever at the top, is now used to transmit all three DAB multiplexes. The two band III dipoles on the left were used to transmit Digital One until April 2015.

Radio Solent Tx aerial.

The ILR (Wessex FM) transmit aerials.

[Ed]. Ofcom data from 2012 onwards indicates that both FM radio services now share the white vertical antenna at the top.

Above and below: pictures from Kieran Williams, taken in summer 2011.
