THE TRANSMISSION GALLERY
HASTINGS (OLD TOWN)
Photos by Dave Coppen and Dan Glover | Page last updated: 2021-03-07 |
The main Hastings relay - arguably a main station after DSO - has a cardioid radiation pattern which places the Old Town area in a null. This explains the need for an 18-element receive yagi. The target service area comprises about 2,400 people living in parts of Old Town and Belmont which are virtually at sea level, with the relay being on a ridge just above. Hastings (Old Town) entered service on 4-Dec-1987. The site appears to have been refurbished since Dave's photos: new pole complete with bird scarer and "fall arrest system", plus a coat of green paint. The configuration remains unchanged. |
Another location where the "legacy" site number has been lost. |
Despite appearances, the relay is outside the school fence. In fact it's on a public footpath. |
The green paint seems a bit bright. The pole was possibly installed during 2010. |
At the top we have an 18-element yagi for receive and two pairs of crossed logs for transmit. The birds are clearly not troubled by the metal "woodpecker" below... |
