CHARTHAM
Photos by Dave Coppen and Dan Glover | Page last updated: 2023-07-17 |
Chartham was originally an IBA landlord site which entered service on 5-Dec-1975 to serve 6500 people. Channel 4 was added in February 1985. DSO was on 13th and 27th June 2012. DAB service dates: Digital One 14-Apr-2004; Kent 30-Apr-2004; BBC 24-Jan-2006. In mid-2016 work to improve the coverage of the Kent multiplex involved changes to the antenna at Chartham - see bottom of page |
This hand-written site identification number is stuck to one of the equipment cabins. |
The only significant change since Dave's visit is the DAB dipoles on new cantilever at the top. On UHF still two groups of panels for tx and a trough for rx (on the right-hand side in the photos). Various SHF links have appeared and disappeared but curiously the old-style mobile phone corner reflectors remain. |
Dan visited late one evening, late in June 2016, to find the DAB dipoles have been moved and now point in more-or-less the opposite direction. Ofcom data shows the maximum ERP used to be on bearing 290 - an area now better served from Dunkirk. We will have to wait for confirmation of the new parameters. (The two 5-element yagis mounted on the work platform might be a temporary arrangement.) |
