Moray Firth Radio Medium Wave transmitter site at Tarbat Ness

Tarbat Ness was built by the IBA for the Inverness ILR service which launched on 23-Feb-1982 as Moray Firth Radio. Other than splitting from the FM service and operating under the name MFR2 it is likely nothing has changed.

The installation appears similar to that at Nigg - which opened around seven months earlier - possibly the antenna is not a standard "mast radiator" ?

Taking a close look it seems the top level "stays" are more likely a "capacitance hat" forming part of the antenna. As at Nigg there also seem to be near-vertical wires, without insulators, running from the close to the mast base and attached to the top of the structure.
