March 2006

Cefn Du was a UHF link, not designed as a public UHF relay. The launch of DTT at Winter Hill would cause co-channel interference to the reception of BBC 2 & ITV from Llanddona at Conwy. Winter Hill pre-DSO DTT multiplexes C & D were co-channel. The solution devised was to use Cefn Du as a UHF link, receiving clean off-air BBC 2 & ITV from Moel-y-Parc and re-transmitting on a narrow beam towards Conwy on UHF channels 22 & 25.

We are indebted to Gary Smith for investigating the remote Cefn Du on such a bleak and freezing cold day!
