March 2017

The Bee started broadcasting in October 2005 to Blackburn, Accrington and Darwen. The station rebranded to 2BR in May 2016.

The power is 500 watts mixed polarisation (250 W in each plane).

Two Shively Labs 6812C point north west towards Blackburn.

Editor's note: although the antenna is presumably meant to offer near-omnidirectional coverage Ofcom data shows a reduction of 5 dB in the vertical plane, centered around bearing 120 and maximum ERP on bearing 300. This is presumably the effect of the supporting pole?

Alan: I did think this cigar shaped antenna [a shrouded yagi for a low-SHF band- Ed.] was the studio link, but it seems to be pointing south west - in the opposite direction to that required! However, according to Wiki, The Bee’s previous studios were at Dalton Court in Darwen, which is roughly south west of here. Perhaps it was just cheaper/less hassle to leave this 'cigar' on the tower?

The Bee moved in with 2BR in August 2010, and it seems this site is now line fed.
