Comments: Former BBC band I and band II site

Hide historic services

This former BBC band I and band II site entered service on 15-Mar-1965. Details of the installation can be found in the BBC RD report linked at the bottom of this page. The station was destroyed by an explosion on
24-Jan-1975, being restored late in 1976.

Newry was originally scheduled to be a UHF TV transmitter and would have been site number 107.04 transmitting on ch's 58 / 64 / 60 / 54 with an ERP of 0.5 kW. Instead two new sites, Newry North and Newry South were used to serve the city.

405-line BBC 1 was transmitted on VHF channel 4 and closed on 4-Jan-1983. BBC National FM radio was transmitted on 88.6, 90.8, 93.0 MHz and closed on 19-Jul-1982, being replaced by a new site at Rostrevor Forest.
