Hide historic services

The most southerly of the Winter Hill dependents, Over Biddulph is a directional, low power relay serving a small community shielded by the local terrain. Located in Staffordshire (just), it serves an area which is technically within the Central Television franchise area, overlapped by Fenton.

Originally built by the BBC, Over Biddulph entered service on the 5-Oct-1979 to serve about 1200 people. Channel 4 was added on 18-Apr-1986. It used a non-standard wideband channel allocation of UHF 34/67/30/48. BBC 2 was changed from ch67 to ch57 on the 26-Sep-2000 as a consequence of the interim DTT multiplex coverage equalisation at Winter Hill.

Expanding the picture of the service buildings, the radio telescope at Jodrell Bank is just visible on the horizon.
