Maitland House is a 1960s 8-storey block above the former Keddies department store in central Southend. Keddies were involved at the start of Essex Radio in 1981, with David Keddie as Chairman. By the time the Southend transmitter was added, however, the name had changed to Essex FM, the station was owned by GWR and Keddies had ceased trading In-service dates: Essex FM (now Heart) June 2002 Local DAB June 2002 Southend Radio (now Radio Essex) March 2008 Antenna change March 2015; DAB antenna re-positioned Feb 2016 |
The rest of Paul's photos were taken from the Farringdon car park, to the west of the building... |
The car park closed in November 2010 and the site has been redeveloped. Dan's photos were taken at street level from Farringdon Service Road |
The Sira was changed to a Lindenblad array in March 2015. In February 2016 the orientation of the DAB dipoles was changed however there has been no update to the Ofcom data as of mid-April 2016 and the adjustment seems quite subtle The 3-element yagi is a bit of a mystery - previously it was horizontally polarised and directed in a westerly direction - now it is slant polarised and somewhere more towards north |
