February 2009, updated June 2016

Rob: "St John's Beacon - Liverpool Landmark. Located on the top of St John's shopping centre. It used to
house a revolving restaurant until the bearings seized, now it houses Radio City and Magic radio, and of course
some DAB transmitters. They're located on the top, facing Liverpool Lime Street station. I litererally walked out
of the station and took the pictures, possibly one of the easiest missions for mb21 yet, apart from the hangover."

Alan: "I wanted to get an update on the North Wales/West Cheshire antenna atop St Johns Beacon. Unfortunately, it was overcast and spitting when I took these, but hopefully they will be of some use to the gallery."

Below: Alan's update from "Summer" 2016

The North Wales antenna stack (centre) looks slightly lopsided

There are meant to be four dipoles - the lowest one is behind the parapet

The Liverpool multiplex looks to be beaming north east, while the North Wales multiplex looks to be beaming towards the Wirral and over to Flintshire.

I think the circular halo (detailed in Rob's photos) maybe part of the monitoring of Radio City Talk on 1548 kHz.

Editor's note: Ofcom gives the maximum ERP as 345 for D1 and the Liverpool multiplex. Although no bearing is given for the North East Wales & West Cheshire service (not exactly a concise name...) the radiation pattern seems to be centred on 240 degrees

This site is now included in the Update List for the following reason:
Liverpool SSDAB aerial
