Show historic services

The MF Mast at Littlebourne is about 5-miles to the northeast of Canterbury. Originally built by the IBA for the East Kent ILR service, although Radio Kent was the first service to be transmitted from early 1984 on 774 kHz. ILR (Invicta Radio) launched on 1-Oct-1984 on 603 kHz.

The IBA originally faced a community revolt at the prospect of a 270 ft mast being built near to the village of Wickhambreux, and was defeated at the council hearing on a vote of 6-10 in December 1981. They reapplied and the Littlebourne mast was eventually built. See link at bottom of this page for the Southern TV news item on the planning rejection.

The tubes on the ends of the stay wires were installed after a security scare at Winter Hill - this involved a hacksaw being found about a quarter of the way into a stay wire.

These two band II Yagis pointing towards Wrotham were used for Radio Kent RBS
