Show historic services

1969 & 2006

Patrick's first two photographs of the old Bodmin VHF station were taken in 1969. The relay entered service on 19th September 1966, to improve BBC 405-line reception in the town of Bodmin, but unfortunately during times of enhanced propagation it tended to retransmit incoming RBL interference from both ch2 (North Hessary Tor) and ch1 (Redruth). Bodmin transmitted on ch5. The station closed on 12th January 1982.

After decommissioning the site was used for PMR, and latterly cellular. The original building, similar to the one in Bude, is still in use, now flanked by portacabins.

UHF and FM radio services to the area are currently provided from Penalligon Downs, whose coverage extends to Wadebridge. There is a later MF site to the east of the town, used for BBC Radio Cornwall, also known as Bodmin.
