Sine FM launched in August 2009 with an antenna on the roof of the 12-storey Council House - built in 1966 as the National Coal Board* head office. Ofcom data shows the antenna at 44 m above ground level with mixed polarisation and not-quite omnidirectional coverage with maximum ERP on bearing 190. Sine's original licence application suggests a Sira antenna was used - possibly the directional coverage was due to the location on the structure? The Council House was demolished in July 2014 (see link below). The Council moved to a new building nearby and the CR station followed them - transmitting from the new Civic Office since November 2013. Current Ofcom data has the antenna at 27 m, mixed polarisation and omnidirectional. The ERP remains the same so it seems likely the coverage is slightly reduced due to the lower antenna height and the effect of the metal screens around the parapet of the new building *Daddy, what's a "Coal Board" ? |
The new five-storey Civic Office was built on the site of Doncaster College and opened in January 2013 Yes, that is snow in the foreground |
Planning documents relating to Sine FM's installation on the new building give two vital clues...still a Sira but mounted on a short pole and therefore not particularly visible! |
Well, there's certainly something there, and it's not a TV aerial - can we do better? |
The Parapet Paradox applies - only by going away from the building do we have a clear view (as seen from the continuation of Waterdale, north east of Chequer Road) |
