Alan notes: "Amber Sound is the community radio station for the Ripley area in Derbyshire. Despite the fact the station has only 25 watts at its disposal, the signal travels remarkably well." The station transferred to the Unicorn Business Park (NGR SK400503) on 1 September 2012 - the previous site at the old Hippodrome cinema (SK398504) is being redeveloped. Once again the studio and transmitter are separate and a very short SHF link is in use. |
Definitely the right site then...the studio is in the building in the foreground, with the transmitter on the roof behind. |
The various "domestic" antennas are possibly used for "news gathering" and monitoring of the station's output... |
...but the short SHF link between these two square panels is essential to the station's operation. |
According to Ofcom parameters the antenna is now 34 metres above ground (17 m at the previous site) - it appears to be a Jaybeam type. |
Editor's note: Alan didn't think this was related to Amber Sound, however it does look a bit like a Band I STL antenna. Further research suggests the station may have operated from "out of town" studios at one stage. |
