This new transmitter was added as part of the 700 MHz band clearance programme and entered service on 20th November 2019. Along with Gillingham MOT it forms a Single Frequency Network with Bluebell Hill and operates at 200 W ERP. |
The relay is at an existing mobile phone site, adjacent to a covered reservoir. Unfortunately we're on the "wrong side" so this is the best which can be done at present. |
The antennas are supported from poles added above the mobile phone "head frame". The light was poor and we're behind the array, however it's possible to see two tiers of crossed logs - horizontally polarised. No receive antenna is expected - this site is line fed. |
Maximum erp will be north from the site, reinforcing the signal from Bluebell Hill, however for most of the apparent target area the new transmitter will be around 90 degrees off-beam. It may be the intention is simply to create a local strong signal and rely on the relatively poor directional properties of a domestic antenna to obtain some benefit. The main station is around 10 miles away, the new transmitter under two miles from central Sittingbourne. |
